Results Beat Expectations

The company reported second-quarter results with net sales of $1.74 billion, up 31% year over year, above the market estimate of $1.62 billion. Adjusted earnings per share were $3.75, compared with $0.11 in the year-ago period and the estimate of $3.22. Adjusted EBITDA was $858 million, versus $337 million in the year-ago period and the estimate of $779 million.

Strong Lithium Demand

Albemarle cut its current fiscal year capital expenditure forecast to approximately $500 million while raising its production forecast by 11%. The company noted that global lithium inventories remain low, with weak supply failing to keep pace with growing demand from electric vehicles and battery energy storage. It also raised the low end of its 2030 global lithium demand forecast range by 100,000 metric tons.
