Global demand for high-value copper foil is accelerating sharply this year, driven primarily by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure. According to a research report by Dongwu Securities, worldwide consumption of high-volume low-loss (HVLP) copper foil specifically tailored for AI servers is forecast to reach 24,000 metric tons in 2026, representing a 260 percent year-on-year increase. The same analysis anticipates that figure will climb to 50,000 metric tons by 2027. Beyond data center applications, steady growth in advanced industrial automation, precision instrumentation, premium automotive electronics, and high-speed telecommunications is expected to underpin long-term sector expansion.
Despite this robust demand trajectory, supply constraints remain a defining feature of the market. Industry observers note that HVLP production involves significant technical hurdles and lengthy capital deployment cycles, meaning conventional copper foil manufacturing lines cannot be easily retrofitted for these specialized grades. Consequently, the global industry operates in a persistent structural deficit, with current high-end production capacity heavily concentrated among overseas manufacturers.
This supply-demand mismatch carries direct implications for global copper processing networks and downstream electronics manufacturing. As AI hardware deployments accelerate, the bottleneck in HVLP foil availability could tighten margins for specialty copper producers and influence raw material sourcing strategies for semiconductor and circuit board fabricators worldwide.
